History
ALUTA CONTINUA
Racism still exists. NAMC-UM exists to overcome barriers that racism puts up for contractors of color. We seek accountability for ALL stakeholders, including ourselves, in the quest to mitigate the damage that racism has caused and provide opportunities for minority contractors to create wealth for their communities.
NAMC-UM is the Upper Midwest chapter of the National Association of Minority Contractors, which began in 1969 to address the needs and concerns of minority contractors. NAMC-UM chapter was founded in 1984 by Fred Shaw, Alfred Babbington Johnson, Johnny Walker, Ed Lacy, and Tim Baylor.
In June of 2006, the Chapter hosted NAMC’s 37th Annual National Conference, drawing attendees from all across the country to become the most successful National Conference to date.
In 2007, The Board authorized discussions with the Association of Women Contractors to collaborate on an initiative that unites the two organizations in ensuring MWBE participation in Minnesota’s major construction projects. This initiative, called the Construction Diversity Alliance, was signed into existence on November 28, 2007.
